Course information
This course is an Introduction to Blockchains, Cryptocurrencies, and Smart Contracts. The course focuses on the crypto actif system and its interconnected components: cryptocurrency, blockchain, network nodes, and the Proof-of-Work miners. Students will discover the general principle of Bitcoin as well as its technical infrastructure (Blockchain, mining, protocol). On a practical level, the functioning of a wallet will be explained from the opening to the simple orders. The course also explores Decentralized Finance (DeFi): decentralized exchanges, automated market makers, non-fungible tokens (NFT) and their potential real-life applications.

- Live online sessions: each week, live sessions will be organised with the professor

ESSCA Online Campus Summer/Winter School is aimed at anyone who wants to:
- Learn about the technology and concepts behind digital currencies, decentralized systems, and the creation and trade of non-fungible tokens
- Learn about how these technologies work, their potential uses and implications, and how to analyze and evaluate different projects and applications in the field.
Prerequisite
- First-year university (or similar) studies completed in any discipline.
- English proficiency: Conversational (level B2 Common European Framework: CEFR).
- What is the content of this program?
This course is a mix of synchronous, asynchronous and autonomous preparation. Live sessions will be recorded but your presence in the live sessions is mandatory.
Time zone for live sessions: Central European Time (CET).
During your course, you will attend each week live sessions with the professor.

You will:
- Plan a cryptocurrency project (ICO, DAO, Local crypto-currency) by using a business plan with defined criteria
- Have a practical approach to how blockchains operate, familiarize themselves with Defi and get to know how it is applied in real-world situations.
- Interact with a live DEFI protocol (Decentralized Exchange, lending protocol) on the Ethereum test network and perform a set of tasks such as lend/borrowing funds, use automated Market Maker protocol

Transfer Credit
If you wish to transfer ESSCA Online Campus academic credit, obtain written approval from the dean or adviser at your home institution prior to your registration at ESSCA Online Campus. Such approval is for your protection only; it is not required by Summer/Winter School at ESSCA Online Campus, which cannot approve credits for transfer. We will provide transcript to have grades sent to your home institution.
